Wasp laying eggs?


I've always assumed that these small  insects are a type of Wasp though don't really know for sure. Today while out and about I found this one on the tip of some beach grass laying eggs? I Googled small wasps but didn't really come up with much information.  

Took this with the Nikon 18-300 at 300mm f/5.6

    Very nice close-up. Did you have to crop it very much?

      The final picture is about 1/3 of the original. Sure nice having 24 megapixels to work with compared to just 12 with the D90!
