Make yourself at home or what...

Each year that goes by sees the local deer making themselves more and more at home in Coal Harbour. I guess they feel safe here as no one bothers them and other than raiding the odd garden they don't really cause any bother either. I have to admit they do add to the ambiance of the place.

Home on the Range

I was having coffee this morning and looked out the window to see this view. I thought, it's only 6:30 a.m. it can't be that hot yet, so I grabbed the camera and headed out into the field to get the shot.

It felt good taking a photo, I should do it more often.

Buckingham Fountain, Chicago.

Little wind, little rain...

Perfect day for sailing!

Earlier this summer we went for a 45 day stretch with no rain and lots of sunshine! And now for the past three weeks we've been paying for it. Lots of drizzle and overcast days, but hey, this is the West Coast, that's why everything over here is so green and lush all the time!

Taking a Stroll...

... down memory lane.

As far as new photos go, I got nothin'!

I was hoping to get out this weekend and try for some new photos but they are saying 100 degrees everyday starting Friday so I may still not get any new photos.

Roses in the rain.

Over in one corner of our back yard is a little rose bush that grows untended and blooms faithfully every year. It looked so nice with raindrops on it this morning so I took a couple of pictures.

Butterfly on Camomile flowers

Suddenly today there are white butterflies all over the place, don't know where they came from or how long they will be around... This one was kind enough to hold still long enough for me to take a few pictures before it was off to another patch of flowers.

SHADES of RED

Desert Rose

The Desert Rose had a record setting year for flowers. At one time nine were counted occupying the plant at the same time!

Wagon Load

The rose lives in this old wagon on the north porch.

Petunia

Not for sure what the little cluster of red and white flowers are; but the five pointed star shaped flower is a nice petunia, in a nice shade of red.

Geranium

These pics were all made in July of this year. Miss Charlotte declares this has been one of the best growing years in a long time. Here it is August and we still have rich green grass and flowers all around. She grows and tends them, mows the grass, and I get the hardest job. Picking out my favorite of the many varieties while making sure my chair stays in the shade!

Cell phone pictures... Hu?

A few weeks ago my stupid "Smart Phone" went deep sea diving without me... (Fortunately for me). So I replaced it with the latest offering from Samsung, the Galaxy S4. Besides all the latest built in gadgets like thermometer, hygrometer, barometer, and a bunch of other sensors it has a 13mp camera.  Thats more than my 12mp Nikon D90!

Today I got a chance to play around with it... The above picture is about a 20% crop of the original picture. I cropped and sharpened it in the phone with the built in editing features.

A touch of orange Part II

I happened to step outside last night as the moon was coming over the horizon and noticed it was a different color than normal. I grabbed my camera and took a quick shot. This is straight from the camera other than cropping the image. I shot it with the Nikon 28-300mm lens at 300mm and I cropped it A LOT.

Suppose I should have shook the grass clippings off the flower. But then I would have disturbed the bee!

Hiking the hills above Port Hardy

Eventually when you get up high enough you can see the forested hills that make up so much of the Northern tip of Vancouver Island. Though much has been logged over the years the hills are lush with second growth trees of numerous evergreen species.

Many lakes of all sizes can be found on the North Island. This particular one is only accessible by trail. Though I didn't bring a fishing rod I could see that there were definitely fish to be caught had I done so.

The three amigos after an afternoon of hiking...

Remembering The Mississippi Kite

Mississippi Kite
5/15/12

Thanks to Tex from the Run Around Ranch for a memory jog back to last summer. Her yesterday's Post about her first Kite sighting had me looking back at my last years pics. Found these three that I hadn't posted so thought maybe now was the time.

Top Perch

Picture taking and traveling has been pretty much on hold so far this year, so looking back to last years adventures I found my Kite photos. Not only were pictures of the raptors found, but also my snapshot pics of my friends who were camped out in the same campground as I. What a time we had!

I'm Camped In Site #56 With Parker

How lucky to have the nesting pair in the tall Post Oak tree to share your campsite with. Their mating tree was the dead Oak in the first and second pics above. From all their activity over the couple of weeks I was there, I'm sure they must have had a successful brood to raise!

Having one's memory jogged and remembering fun photo shoots and adventures like this are good for the Soul! Being able to make these adventures is even better!

Something Fishy

It's official, work sucks! I still haven't had time to take any new photos so you get more fish from Maui.

Double take!

Around this part of the Coast float planes a common sight and most of the time we barely give them more than a quick glance. I had to do a double take when I saw these two coming into the Hardy Bay flying in formation! Fortunately I had my camera and was able to get a few shots before they landed.

Bee on a Cone flower

Found this Bee meticulously working over a Cone flower so I took a few pictures. The Bee didn't seem to notice me it was so into getting every little bit of pollen.
