Out with the old...

...and in with the new.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Looking Up

These are from this past summer when it was warm enough to go out at night and take photos.

In need of Repair

This isn't a pier you would want to spend too much time on, especially since it's illegal to be on the pier and they will write you a trespassing ticket which isn't cheap.

That doesn't seem to stop most people though.

And before you ask, no, I did not get a ticket. Not for being on the bridge anyway.

Raven silhouette

Except for re-sizing and cropping this is pretty much as shot (in color) out of the camera handheld with the Sigma 120-400 at 400mm.

For Ron & Aaron.

I hope you are thinking about us while you in Maui Ron!  Are you packing yet?

A couple more eagle pictures...

While going through some photos from several years ago I found a couple eagle pictures I haven't posted yet. So I worked them both over a bit in Photoshop and here they are.

Life in the slow lane

This was the view the other morning when the "Boys" and I arrived at Quatse Lake... There had been heavy rain over night and this was the calm after the storm.

Life in the fast lane

I'm digging in to the old files again because I haven't been out to take any new photos for a while.

I took this train photo about 6:00 in the morning. Trains can put off a lot of wind when you get close to them!

Oh oh, snow...

It's starting... It does this every winter around this time of year all innocent like no one will notice. First a bit of white at the tops of the highest peaks then over the next days and weeks it creeps lower and lower then before you know it you are knee deep in the stuff!

This was the view today of the log sort at Beaver Cove near Port McNeill.

Stumped

Here are are couple more from October. Haven't had the free time to get out and take any new ones recently :(.

First day of Winter...

According to the almanac, winter officially started today at 6:00 pm. That would also make this the shortest day of the year. Only six months to go until Summer!

This is a view looking South from Coal Harbour of Holberg Inlet and Quatsino Narrows.

Last day of Fall...

Here are a couple more pictures from my visit to the Cleveland Dam in North Vancouver last month. Q's post yesterday with his beautiful fall colors must have inspired me. Blame it on Q!  :)

My, What big eyes you have...

It's a little "drismal" here today too and we are expecting snow tonight. Does that make it  "snowsmal" outside?

I thought I would give Paul a little light and color to brighten his short day.

Drismal...

Port Hardy Waterfront

Urban Dictionary: Drismal
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=drismal
drismal. the sad melancholy feeling induced by a rainy overcast day.

Drisnal days like this are typical this time of year on the Northern tip of Vancouver Island... 3:15 and the street lights are already coming on, ugh! On the shortest day of the year we officially get 7 hours and 59 minutes of daylight and 16 hours 1 minute of darkness.

But hey no worries, it's all good, after this weekend the days are going to start getting longer again!

Sneak attack!

I was out with the camera several evenings ago hoping for a sunset that never materialized... Just as I was getting ready to head home I spotted a juvenile Eagle with a piece of fish. It would seem that I wasn't the only one to have seen this young Eagle and his fish... Out of the blue a mature Bald Eagle swooped in under the young Eagle and expertly relieved him of his prize!

Unfortunately not the best pictures as it was getting quite dim by the time this all went down but thanks to Photoshop I was able to make these shots somewhat more presentable.
