This was taken off of Olowalu Beach on Maui one evening while I was looking for turtles.

Aaron and I were down at the pond a couple of weeks ago shooting reflections and he came up with this great idea. I stood and waited for him to set up the shot but he never did so I stole the flower and took the shot myself. 

Okay, I may not have waited very long but I did wait a little bit. I get impatient sometimes in my old age!

Inside a Poppy

I found this poppy flower growing in the yard so I stuck my camera lens up nice a close and took a photo.

My, what big eyes you have.

We have been over run by the cicadas this year. Everywhere you look there are hundreds of them flying around. You can even hear them over the sound of a riding mower while you're on the mower.

If you don't like big flying bugs, stay out of Kansas this summer!

Headed out to sea

Aaron started it!

I didn't get the wave curl shots I wanted this last trip so I guess I'll just have to go back and try again! It's a rough job but I think I'm up to the task.

These were all shot using a GoPro Hero 4 on a pistol grip. The first photo was shot next to a reef at low tide just as a small wave came over the top of the reef.

The second shot is the same reef but the shot is taken as the wave is breaking on top of the reef and the third shot, well, that's just there so Aaron doesn't have a monopoly on shots of flowers in the ocean. LOL

The Curls

 

Just felt like Hawaii today. Ron and I talked a lot about trying to get the perfect curl shot of the waves breaking. There is a lot of hard work and pain that goes into getting some of the amazing shots you see featured in various places. We didn't get much of a chance to really go out and try at the popular spots, where the waves break just right, when we went back in January. I did play around on the tiny waves that were breaking on the reef by the condo. Here are three that I liked I have a lot of pictures to go through and I have barely posted any of them. One of these days I will get to it. Until then enjoy!

The top picture is from early February and the bottom picture is the same beach 4 months later and quite a few degrees warmer!

Mother Nature's Electric Company

Here are three good shots I got of Mother Nature's Electric Company. I haven't had many chances to get out and get any new shots so getting a chance to go out last night and stay out till 12 am was awesome. Hope you enjoy!

The view from here...

Here being the Seagate Dock in Port Hardy. A favorite place to fish in the Summer and a good place to check out any time of the year. Also a great vantage point to take photos from!

The "Seine floats" in the inner part of Hardy Bay.

Twins! For the past several weeks there have been two of these 48 foot Coast Guard life boats at the Port Hardy life boat station.

stealing ideas

Aaron was the King of Flower shots this past trip to Maui but what kind of father would I be if I didn't steal some of his ideas and try to be better at it?

It didn't work, he got some seriously good flower shots but giving him a hard time while doing it is my job!

I posted a different version of these a few months back. I used some different filters in photoshop to change the look a little in this one.

I apologize for the repeat photo and my absence from the blog. Things have been very hectic around here lately. I'm hoping to see a break in the frantic hustle and bustle in the next 3-4 weeks.

The upper picture is a crop of the lower picture. Just by chance this particular shot came out really well focused and I was shooting handheld as usual... Wish I could get nice crisp shots like this all the time!
