I took this photo from the top of a mountain I was kiking on a little east of Scottsdale, Arizona. Lots of mountains in this area, all surrounding by cactus and Indian reservations.
Nice picture though those aren't real mountains...LOL If you want to see mountains... So is there allot of good hiking around there and are there any publications or web sites with trail maps or anything like that you can tell me about? Also how are the locals towards tourists? One of these days I hope to check out Arizona.
When you are hiking UP one of these it definitely IS a mountian! LOL
There are a lot of good hiking and biking trails in this area (around Phoenix, Mesa and Scottsdale). The most famous of the mountains in this area are the Superstition Mountains. You can google the Superstitions or try "The Lost Dutchman Mine".
The locals seem to be fine with tourists. I've never had a problem when there. Several of the destinations in Arizona are "tourist" spots and they realize that's where there money is coming from so they are pretty friendly.
