While Aaron and I were at the "wetlands" refuge last week we spotted some white pelicans in some shallow water at a nearby lake. We decided to try to get close enough to get some photos but to do so we had to walk out into the lake about 400 yards. Unfortunately this was pretty easy to do since the lake was down several feet and there was about 500 yards of lake bottom exposed. We were able to get within about 100 yards of the birds before it got so muddy we were sinking into the lake bed.
I only had the Nikon 80-200mm lens with me so my shots still look far away.
we could use some good rains here, too, to replenish the pond and the nearby lake levels (that supply our co-op water!)
ReplyDeleteLooks like there were quite a few of the migrating pelicans.
ReplyDeleteOK! Whats that thing I'm looking at in the dry lake bed?
It's an opened clam shell that was overgrown with a fungus of some kind
DeleteHopefully the water level back to normal by next summer for you. With that many pelicans, you and Aaron going to have some fun shooting them. By the way, have you try to use the 80-200mm for portrait yet?
ReplyDeleteI haven't done any portraits with it yet. I'm waiting for the hula girls in Hawaii! (when Cheryl is looking of course) LOL
DeleteAaron my borrow later on to do some of his portraits with but I don't have any body to take portraits of.
What about your dogs?LOL
DeleteI guess if I get really bored I can see if they will sit still that long. LOL
DeleteHow much rain you want? Lots over here on the Wet Coast... Lol
ReplyDeleteNice find, betcha wish you had your 150-500 with you that day!
I did have the 150-500mm with me that day but it was on Aaron's camera! LOL
DeleteHopefully he will post a couple of shots of the pelicans.
