A photo adventure with Dad

Yes that is a nuclear reactor in the background.

Three or four pelicans got a little uncomfortable with us walking up and took flight.

After a while they decided to return to the flock and come in for a landing

These were all shot with Ron's 150-500mm lens at 500mm and cropped around 50%.

  1. You didn't do too bad hand holding the 500mm lens. Next time we bring knee high mud boots so we can get closer!

  2. Agree with Ron. 500mm is alot of lens to handhold. Monopod might work pretty good while trying to wade mud.

Composition on that third pic was a good setup! Wonder if a guy could approach these birds from a canoe and make a blind with some netting? At the least get closer without having to walk in mud that is trying to pull his boots off! Interesting area for water fowl. Probably attracts lots of migrating species.

  3. Pretty tough getting close enough to get detailed shots of these birds at this location, still you got some nice shots!

Time to get Ron to buy one of those 2000mm prime lenses them birders use and a mega tripod to go with! LOL

    1. I think I need to give you Cheryl's e-mail so you can convince her I need that! LOL Ever since Q was here in July I've been trying to convince her I need a Nikon 600mm f4. I'm almost there!

  4. I think those Pelicans got uncomfortable with Ron not you. LOL.
Hopefully, the water level back to normal by next summer, so that way you don't have to walk on the mud.

    1. Maybe the sun glaring off of my bald head spooked them. LOL
