Sunrise over Secret Beach

I'm starting to really like this drone flying! This is the sunrise from the south side of Maui looking back towards the sun. The HDR feature on the drone seems to work really well. This is technically a 360 degree shot, just folded out from one end to the other.

There are limits though because there are places they won't let you fly them, like in national parks. Not without jumping through a lot of hoops to do so anyway. Something I'm not willing to do right now.

This bottom photo is of my partner as she looks at over the top of Haleakala Summit. It was taken with a real camera! You can see the trail that takes you down into the volcano on the side of the "hill" she is standing on. They finally opened the national park for hiking so we've been trying to hike every trail there is. Hiking at 10,000 feet is exhausting!! The elevation change on this particular trail is around 1500 feet down and of course back up.

more of Maui from the sky

I took these at the far south end of the island over an area where the last lava flow happened here. I didn't hike in as far as I wanted but I plan on going back next week and getting all the way to the far south end.

These were taken just south of La Perouse Bay.

More from the air

maui, hawaii, beach, ocean, drone

This is definitely a learning process but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I do get very nervous when flying the drone though, I'm not use to not having the camera in my hand and I have been afraid of crashing it.

Skyview in Maui

Learning to photograph with a new toy. I bought a drone last month and I'm finally learning how to fly it properly.

I haven't crashed it,

yet!

The Wave. Kanab, Utah.

I have been waiting for over 4 years, and many visits at the park office to get pick to go in this place.  They only allowed 20 people with a permit to visit this place a day.  To get a permit, you'll have to selected by Lotto system.  There's 10 people will be selected online, and other 10 people will be selected walk-in the office in Kanab, Utah.
In the past, there will be over 100 people applied at the office, so my chances is very slim due to tourist from other countries.  Also, if I apply online, I would compete with other people around the world.  So you know my chances is nearly zero.
Due to the Pedemic, there are only around 40 people applied when I was here for five days, and finally got picks on the 3rd day.  Unfortunately, one of our friend wasn't feeling well, so we couldn't stay here for the sunset.  We didn't want to take $15K helicopter rescue our friend.

Night Time in Hana, Hawaii

I had the opportunity to go camping with friends for a few days in Hana and although it rained during all of the nights we were there the skies would occasionally open up and show some stars. This shot was taken about 3:00 a.m. I had a window of about 30 minutes to take photos before the rain came back.

I'm headed back in about two weeks to try it again.

North Shore Sunset

I guess if you have to be quarantined from the world there could be worse places to be in!

Spending a little time in the ocean to relax and destress.

Good morning Maui!

I took a little walk upcountry this morning as the sun was coming up. It's not palm trees and ocean but Maui does offer 11 of the 13 eco-systems in the world.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Nothing really special about this photo but I thought you might enjoy a nice Hawaiian beach scene.

Eventually....

...there are rainbows.

We start a stay at home order tomorrow, in effect until April 30th. They are telling us we can still go out and walk, hike and swim as long as we continue the "anti-social distancing". (thank you for that Paul!)

I am planning on spending a lot of time on the kayak weather permitting and doing some hiking or snorkeling when the chance arises. I will continue to post photos but you may see some repeats from past years if I can't get new things that are interesting.

Aloha!

Splish Spash

Just before sunset last night at Ho'okipa Beach. The waves were rolling in big, the surfers were out and everybody was calm.

Social Distancing

I took these photos from my kayak about two weeks ago before all of the closings started, I was about as socially distant as you could get because I was a little over two miles out when I took these.

I am going to continue to get out on the water, weather permitting, to take more photos and I will be moving around parts of the island taking photos and a few videos too. I know there are people out there confined to their homes so I am gong to try to post more photos more often of the paradise that I live in in the hopes that it eases some stress to a few people.

Aloha!
