Landing Craft

Here is a picture I took of my pickup and landing craft for a website I never got around to seting up to promote my little business. Having this equipment has opened some interesting doors over the years as far as business is concerned.

A different kind of bird

I know that going from the majestic Bald Eagle to a bunch of turkeys is kind of a let down but......

These turkeys were crossing through the front of my yard this morning so I thought I would snap a few photos.

A few eagles...

All the white specks in the branches are mature Bald Eagles, there are probably as many immature eagles in this picture (not so easy to see) as there are mature ones.

After the storm

This double rainbow appeared just outside of my house after a summer storm. Does that mean there are two pots of gold on my land?

Funky Rock Formations

These were found out in Central Kansas. They are in a state park that is all of about 3 acres in size. That's right, just three acres! The state wanted to protect the rock formations, all four of them, so they made the land around them a state park.

Sunrise

Who knows what adventure the new day will bring? I took this photo one cold morning just before heading out to one of the nearby lighthouses to service some equipment. Immagine that getting paid to ride around in a helocopter with a camera... What a nice treat!

Tikis, the moon and the sun

I took this photo just as the sun was setting so there was a little light left in the sky but the moon was already up and just happen to be in the right spot so I didn't even have to leave my table at the bar. How's that for a photo op! This is on Ka'anapali beach looking back towards Lahaina.

You just have to love Hawaii!

There's nothing like sitting at the bar on the beach having a beer and watching the sun go down. This was taken on Ka'anapali Beach on Maui. I thought the tiki torch would be an added touch with the last light of the sun.

More from Maui

This was taken about half way up Haleakala, the dormant volcano that makes up the biggest part of the island. This is looking back towards Kihei.

Yesterday at the beach

Looking North from the Tex Lyon trail.

Yesterday was one of those days, the light was right for photography. Obviously a walk on the beach with my better half and the dogs was in order. This was one of the nicer pictures though I applied some of my recently learned Hawaii picture salvage tecniques to it with Photoshop LOL.

The top of a volcano

This is the top of Haleakala Volcano on Maui. It's a dormant volcano and the top sits at just over 10,000 feet.

Spring thaw

The Good Lord's creation is most amazing! Who would have thought that so much goes on each time one little drop of water falls to the ground.

Dusk in the Oklahoma mountains

I took this photo at dusk from the top of Mount Scott. It was a hazy day but I thought the colors were remarkable through the haze.

First day of Spring

No easy task trying to photograph a water droplet falling. This picture is acutally two pictures of the same branches merged togather, that way I got two droplets in the same picture.

Looking into the Arizona sun

I was trying to be artistic with this one. Actually, I was trying to catch my breath after climbing up the side of this mountain and the cactus gave me a little shade so I took a photo.

Buster & Sunny Posing for the camera

Most people will put on a pose for the camera if one is pointed at them. Go ahead and try to get your pet to strike a pose and hold it long enough to get that perfect shot... Of the thousands of pet pictures I've ever taken this picture would have to be in the top ten.

I took this photo at the Maui Ocean Center in Hawaii. Maui has to be one of the best places on earth!

Is it Spring, again?

The last two days it has been in the 70's here but tonight it's supposed to drop back into the 30's. It seems we are going to get our Spring flowers one or two days at a time.

Noteworthy sunrise

From start to finish it only lasted perhaps 10 minutes, but it was one of the most vivid sunrises I can remember! Fortunately I had a camera handy!

More from Sedona, AZ

One of the big draws to Sedona, AZ are the landscapes. Just about everything is big and colorful.


Lots of reds, tans and browns in the dirt. I wish I could have been there for a few sunsets and sunrises but this was just a day trip up from Phoenix, AZ




The rock formations in the area are spectacular and since Sedona is higher in elevation than Phoenix it stays about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. In the summer ten degrees can make a very big difference.

Wood Carving

I came across this carving while in Sedona, AZ. They have several carvings and stautes along the walk ways in town.

Red sky in the morning,

Sailors take warning. This old saying still holds true, often foul weather follows a red sunrise here on the West Coast!

Snake in the grass!

Did someone say something about rattle snakes? I usually give snakes a lot of room. This photo was taken with a zoom lens and even that was too close for me!

Across the Valley

I took this photo last week in the Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma. They set a record high temperature of 90 degrees for that day. It made it a very warm hike!

Just Clouds

What can I say, I just have a thing for photos of the sky.

View of Hardy Bay

This last weekend my Wife and I took a drive and then a hike up a nearby hill overlooking Port Hardy. This is probably the best picture showing Hardy Bay (Looking North) with the Mainland in the distance.

What you don't find...

After 25 years of living here on Northern Vancouver Island we have seen prety much everything there is to see up this way as we are dedicated hikers and try to go somewhere interesting at least once a weekend...

Yesterday my Wife and I were driving down a back road we have driven many times in the past. Something through the trees caught my eye, didn't look quite right. So I stoped the truck and we walked about 100 feet through the woods into a swampy clearing. Here we found an old Logging Trestle Bridge which crossed the swampy area! What a find! the fact that there were no trails from the road to this place leads me to believe that not many people know it is here.

Though it was getting dusky I took a number of pictures fully intending to come back and do a real shoot on the place in the near future!

The upper picture is as shot, the picture below is me playing around with PhotoShop and turning the picture into a painting. Came out not too bad.

This is a honu (hawaiian for turtle) and his friend. These turtles are from Maui.

Braver than me!

My Step Son and Son in law to be are both avid mountain bike riders. Today just for the fun of it I took the camera up to where they were playing around with a new jump they had built. It was quite dark under the forest canopy so I cranked the ISO to max (1600 on my old D50), turned up the intensety on the flash and set the shutter speed to 1/500 of a second. A little post processing with Photo shop and the pictures came out not bad if I do say so myself! Here is one of the better shots after I had the camera (and myself) all dialed in...

Double Trouble

Last week I introduced "Sunny Boy" (the hot dog bun thief)... Here he is again doing his invisable dog routine!

Suddenly the invisable dog (55 lbs) bursts out of the long grass and puts the run on "Buster" our (120 lb) Maremma sheep dog.

Me and Buster the "lap dog" when he was a few years younger and a few lbs lighter!
