Wild Grey Yonder...

Up and away into the wild grey yonder!

Just a few days into Spring so I guess a some more grey sky is to be expected, can't wait for warmer weather and blue skies!

Spring did come!

Of course right after it arrived the temperatures dropped back into the 20's!

The good thing is I don't live in Colorado. They got buried in snow this week.

Keeping it realistic

Top picture is straight out of the camera

Bottom picture is after post processing.

Just playing around with some new to me photo editing software and doing my darnedest to keep the end results as realistic as possible.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

"It's easy" my Irish friend told me...

- First you go to the end of the rainbow. (like it ever quits moving...)
- Next you look around for a little man dressed in green who will be repairing shoes.
- Now comes the tricky part, catch the little man! (capturing a leprechaun is almost impossible by the way)
- If by chance you do manage to capture the little fellow he is obliged to tell you where his pot of gold is. (assuming he actually has a pot of gold...)

After thinking about the logistics involved with mounting an expedition to chase rainbows and capture leprechauns I came to the conclusion that we should all just go and buy ourselves a lottery ticket instead!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
May the luck O'the Irish be with you!

Port Hardy waterfront panoramas

This is one thing my DSLR camera just won't do as well or as easily as my cell phone... Panorama shots like these!

Just a little too close

Maybe it's just me but I think if I was going whale watching a paddle board might not be my first choice for a mode of transportation.

Just a sunset splash

I was just sitting around at sunset watching the ocean, and having a cocktail.
It was that time after all.

Early morning wood

Come on now Tex, I know what you're thinking!

I thought I would add to Paul's wood themed post and put up a photo of the rays from a sunrise hitting a dead tree on the beach. It doesn't sound that interesting but I liked the colors it brought out in the wood.

Tree farming.

This is a common sight and not the least bit alarming for those of us living in the Temperate Rainforest on Northern Vancouver Island.

The felled trees and the standing trees in the background are all about 60 to 70 years old, that is to say that this area has already been harvested at least once and will be harvested again in another 60 or 70 years.

After these logs are hauled away the tree planters will come through and plant hundreds of new seedlings, Soon after that the roads will be deactivated and within 20 years "you won't be able to see the forest for the trees" as the old saying goes!

Time to get out the paint ol paint brush...

I took this nice picture of the "John P Tully" at anchor in Hardy Bay several days ago. When I got home an had a little closer look at the picture I couldn't help but notice rust streaks and chipped paint. Looks like it's time to get out the ol paint brush and get this fine vessel all shined up again!

Thin Air

I don't know why but I am always drawn to the top of Haleakala, the dormant volcano on Maui. My wife thinks it's cold and desolate, which it is, but the colors are just amazing to me.

And how often do you get to climb around on a volcano!
