Driftwood at the Airport Beach
Though I've taken a couple post worthy pictures with the good camera, I haven't had a chance to download them to the computer for post processing yet. So in the mean time here's another beach panorama using the cell phone.

A rainbow and sunbeams
Often you see rainbows or you see sunbeams but seldom do you see the two at the same time at least not around here, so I took a picture.

Sneaky Snake
Technically it's an eel, a snowflake eel to be exact but in the grand scheme of things when snakes make you nervous, even if it's underwater, it's a snake!

Tails of Hawaii
I think the whales must sense when I am around because they never want to cooperate as far as me getting "that" shot of them jumping. I even went out on a boat tour this trip and pretty much had the boat all to myself and they still didn't jump.
What made things worse is while at a luau we met a couple of younger girls (in their 20's) who were asking about my camera equipment and they showed me a photo they got of a breaching whale while on a whale tour. It was a really nice photo too. To make things even worse this was their first trip to Hawaii and they took the photo with a frickin' cell phone!
I really needed those free mai tais after that.

Inner Hardy Bay
This is the view from the Seagate Wharf (where the big Coast Guard vessels tie up) of the inner part of Hardy Bay including the Seine floats in the middle and the Keltic Seafoods Cannery on the right.
Typical winter scene for Northern Vancouver Island, low clouds, cool light rain and the faint smell of wood stove smoke hanging in the air.
I bought a hotel
Nah, just kidding.
My wife and I were out looking at lake houses this weekend near the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and we came across this sign. You just have to love that redneck humor!
We were told that this sign was featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno during a segment he did on funny signs around the country.

Tonight's moon
Apparently there was supposed to be a planet or two in close proximity to the new moon in the sky tonight but I couldn't see anything other than the moon so I took a few pictures anyway...
I used my Sigma 120-400mm lens at f8 for this shot and set the camera to spot metering rather than matrix metering otherwise the moon is totally blown out and way to bright to pick out any details.

Come Sail Away
Got lucky on these shots. I took two camera's with me to the beach that night. One with a 17-35mm wide angle lens for shooting the sunset and the other with a 18-250mm to take pictures of the family playing on the beach. I ended up using the 18-250 to get these close up shots of the sail boat passing by in the sunset. If I hadn't have had two cameras I would never have got these shots. I posted them all because I couldn't pick a favorite!

Blue Reflections
We were headed to the top of Haleakala one day and came across a wetland preserve on Maui. There wasn't a lick of wind and the water was as smooth as you could ever ask for so we stopped along the road and took a few photos.
In honor of Paul I took this hand held. Well, actually, I was just too lazy to get my tripod out of the car.

A Crow and some other birds...
This is a picture of a Crow trying to have a nice quiet lunch on the beach but these other larger birds kept getting in it's way...

More water theme...
So far our winter over here on the West Coast of Canada has been unusually mild. Only had 1/2 inch of snow and only two or three weeks of below freezing temperatures. And now for the last 5 weeks we've been enjoying daytime temperatures in the mid 50's (above 10° C). If this is "Global Warming" bring it on, we're loving it!
Even with this mild weather I was still surprised several days ago when I spotted this fellow paddle boarding in Hardy Bay. Though the day was warm you know darn well the water would have been freezing!
Staying with the water theme
It was a good year this trip for taking underwater photos. For the most part the water was always clear and there was an abundance of things to photograph. All I needed was for a whale to swim by and I would have been happy!

Watching you!
Several days ago while on the Port Hardy waterfront we saw a number of Sea Lions playing in the Hardy Bay. As it would turn out it was several female Sea Lions vying for the attention of a large male or Bull Sea Lion.
When we went out on the dock to take some pictures the Bull came over and checked us out from both above and below the water. I guess we must have passed muster because before long he was back out playing in the bay.

A Valentines Day poem...
The sun had set
The Eagles were two
I took this grainy shot
Just for you
Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
Hawaiian Rose
Hibiscuses are red,
Violets are blue,
I like Hawaii,
And so would you!!
Happy Valentine's Day everybody, hope you are getting to spend it with the ones you love!

Dim overcast day...
Not the best light for taking pictures but just perfect for long exposure shots! I found these two little streams while out hiking yesterday but didn't have the tripod with me for taking a long exposure picture so I braced the camera against a tree for one shot and balanced it on a rock for the other.
