Flying high

For some reason I had several of these fly over my property the other day. It makes it hard for a guy to take a nap! They make a lot of noise.

D90 first pictures

Well here are 3 pictures... It's a little hard to tell with these reduced size pictures, but the first two pictures demonstrate the Active D lighting (Aka built in HDR) function which I am quite impressed with and the last picture is no big deal except that I purposely took it a t ISO 3200 with exelent results!
Other than that I really didn't get a real good chance to play with it much as it rained most all day and we had family over for Easter dinner. Tomorrow however rain or shine I'm going out hiking and the new camera is coming with me!

Shooting in the dark

We had a full moon just a couple of nights ago and a nice clear sky so I thought I would see what the Tamron 18-250mm lens would do. I cropped this a little since the moon was the only thing in the photo.

Even More Palm Trees

This is a shot looking along Ka'anapali Beach on Maui just outside of the Marriott Resort.

This photo was also taken from Ka'anapali Beach at the Hyatt Regency Resort. I ended up with a little lens flare in this photo but it turned out good enough that I thought I would post it anyway.

More palm trees!

It's difficult to show pictures of Hawaii without having the odd palm tree in the picture.

More from Maui

I didn't spend all of my time at the bar, I occassionally walked out to the beach to take a photo or two!

Evening Rutual

Late afternoon sees a different Waikiki. The locals come down to the beach. Sailboats large and small stream out of the marina and take up position on the horizon. One by one the park benches fill up with people waiting quietly. As the shadows get longer a quiet anticipation grows. The sun dips lower, a hint of orange outlines the wispy clouds to the west. Every day just around this time you find yourself waiting for the sunset for this is the evening ritual.

Looking for those colors

For some reason when I was on Maui I always found myself sitting at a bar around sunset looking for just the right colors. I guess I'm a lazy photographer since I didn't even leave the table to take this shot. Come to think of it, I had several shots at the table. Photographic and the drinking kind!!

Water Sports

We might as well spend a few days in Hawaii here on the blog. It's still cold where I'm at and I could use a little sun and sand!

I can see it now...

laying in the shade, a gentle warm breeze, the sound of surf on the nearby beach and not a care in the world...

Back to the Islands

Well I thought after a cold day at the beach we ought to have a warm day at the beach.

This was taken about a half hour before sunset on Ka'anapali Beach on Maui. I tweaked the colors just a little bit to bring out the orange in the clouds. The white dot on the right side of the palm tree is the moon.

Squall at Masterman Islands

Typicall this time of year is a mixture of sun, rain and wind on Northern Vancouver Island. Here is a picture capturing just that.

Critters and a New Lens

I recently purchased a new lens for my Nikon D80 and had the opportunity to take it with me on a couple of hikes into the mountains of SW Oklahoma. The Tamron 18-250mm lens performed very well, allowing me to stay at a safe distance from the very large buffalo I encountered and it a kept me from having to be too sneaky to get this shot of a prairie dog. I don't think either of the animals were too pleased to see me.

Lost and found

Years ago Stephanie (my Wife) and I were out hiking on a beach a few miles up the inlet from here. Just by chance I noticed something in the woods not quite the right colour. On further investigation (crawl through the underbrush) we had found a very old "Steam Donkey" a steam powered portable winch used for logging.

On a number of ocasions since we have tried to relocate that old "Steam Donkey" but for whatever reason were unable to until yesterday! Finally there it was just as we had left it, only a few feet from the beach but nearly invisable until you were right up to it.

Bobbing for Breakfast

I was out hiking last weekend and came across a couple of geese looking for their morning meal. These were pulling something out of the lake, a cold lake I might add!

Portrait 101

I don't understand! The book said that if the eyes were in focus... Fun with Sigma 10-20!

After the storm II

I was on my way home from a trip and got back just as a storm had rolled out and had this view so I stopped and took a few photos.

The old dam.

Behind my home there is an old road that leads to an abandoned dam. I took the camera down there tonight at dusk and took some long exposure images. After cleaning them up some in Photoshop this was the best picture.

Two Headed Dog

The reason I have a pickup truck with a canopy is not so I can haul tools and equipment around... The real reason is because of these guys! Oh and by the way these are guard dogs (that makes them tax deductable... LOL)
