Feeling gloomy

I apologize for the lack of photos over the last two weeks. I ended up with the "crud" which kept me in bed for several days and that in turn, put me behind at work by several days which created a chain reaction of being behind in everything else.

A panorama of Lahaina

I took this photo about a third of the way up the side of one of the volcanoes on Maui looking back towards the island of Lana'i and over the top of the town of Lahaina. I was hoping for a better sunset but all in all it still wasn't bad. You just don't get bad sunsets on Maui!

This is 11 shots taken vertically and then stitched together in Photoshop.

Taking a nap

I came across this turtle taking a nap one day while I was out snorkeling.

From the surface of the water I could see a small cave about 12 feet down so I took a deep breath and swam down to take a peek inside. I was surprised to find the honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle) laying on the sandy bottom getting some rest. He was all the way to the back, apparently so some idiot tourist like myself wouldn't bother him.

I snapped a few photos and then headed back to the surface to get some air. I found a couple of small caves like this in the same area and they both had turtles resting in them. I will definitely be going back!

Ahhhhhh....

This really was a relaxing moment.

All I had to do was sit back and enjoy my cocktail because my wife was taking the photos during this sunset. She has a new Nikon D750 and this trip to Hawai'i was her first chance to really get out and use it some.

Now I just have to see if I have the patience to teach her all of the bells and whistles!

Making a splash

I've had a chance to look through some photos again so you will be getting some more Hawai'i photos this week.

I'm always impressed by the whales and I tell every one that asks me about going to Hawai'i, especially Maui, you should go during the winter when the whales are there. For land lubbers like myself, it's a real treat!

Feel the warmth...

NOT!

Like a bucket of ice water in the face, any illusions of an early spring were quickly dispelled this morning when we woke to THIS... The winter that just won't quit. UGH! 😬

Scenes from Hardy Bay...

Some recent scenes from Hardy Bay.

Twin Peaks

Maybe I could have used that lens you found Paul to see to the top!

Hawai'i never stops amazing me. I'm ready to do some more exploring!

We're starting to see the first signs of spring over here on the West Coast of Canada.

Up, up and away!

Another color photograph that came out B&W. Guess that's what happens when you shoot at really bright scenes...😎

From under the sea

Don't ask me, I don't know what kind of fish this is and I can't find my fish book!

Picnic spot

If I had thought ahead and brought some food this would have been a great place to have some lunch!

My first model shoot

Cheryl and I were sitting on our lanai one morning drinking coffee and this lovely lady came out on to the grass and was trying to take her own photo with a point and shoot on a small tripod.

We watched her for a couple of minutes and my wife said I should go down to the beach and offer to take some shots for her, and I always do what my wife tells me! LOL

Her name is Pat, she is a body builder form Nevada and she was more than happy for me to take some photos with my "fancy" camera. I took about 100 shots and was able to get 6-8 good ones out of the bunch.

The wind was blowing pretty good so it was hard to get shots without her hair blowing into her face or looking like a hurricane was coming.  I could have used a little fill flash but I hardly ever take my flash to Hawai'i and this was one of the years I didn't. These were taken early in the morning before the sun had gotten over the top of  the volcano so it was still a little dark.

Another sunset in Paradise

Yep, I can look at these every day!

It's been cloudy, dark and cold here ever since we got back and the longer it stays that way the less happy I am.

It's amazing how much a little bit of sunshine can change your mood!

A sunset in paradise

I didn't shoot too many sunsets this trip, not as many as I wanted to, that's for sure.

I did get a few so you will get to see "cocktail hour" a few times.

That is the island of Lana'i in that background. This just never gets old for me!

On the links

It seems like there are about a hundred golf courses on Maui. I know there isn't that many but you seem to see them just about every where you go.

I used to play golf back in my younger days, when I didn't mind wondering around in the trees looking for my ball. Now I just take photos of the golf courses. I think that is much easier!

Same view different days

I was transfering all the pictures off my cell phone to my computer and started noticing a number of pictures of the same view taken on different days over the space of a few months. (The last picture in this series is with my Nikon D7100 but of the same view so I threw it in as a bonus shot...) Makes for an interesting post if nothing else...

Light

I was headed through a patch of rain forest for a beach below one day to photograph surfers and the sun was making some really strong light beams through the canopy.  Since I was headed for the water I only had one lens with me and it didn't let me get the whole scene in because I couldn't zoom or step back far enough from the light.
