Prepare to dive!

I wasn't in the water much this trip. We had high surf most of the trip which made the water less than ideal for snorkeling. The surfers were going crazy but I didn't get a chance to take many underwater photos.

This is just as I was going under the surface with a wave breaking over my head.

It's a little weird but then again, so am I.

Stilts on the moon

Okay, you got me. I wasn't actually on the moon. I wasn't wearing stilts either!

I was close to the top of the world though. Aaron and I went to the top of Maui's dormant volcano, Haleakala, to shoot the sunset and some star photos one very long day/night. Because the volcano is so tall, 10,023 feet at the summit, it makes the shadows very long since you are parallel to the sun as it sets.

If you are at the top of the volcano at sunset you can actually see the shadow cast by the volcano on the opposite side of the island and it's a BIG shadow!

More waterfalls

Just a couple of more waterfalls from along the road to Hana on Maui.

About those waterfalls

I can honestly say that after driving the Road to Hana on Maui four times now I am done taking that trip for a few years.

Even though it is a place of abundant locations to take photographs, the day always runs about 14 hours long which wears me out. Next time it will all be sandy beaches and sunsets I think.

Right Place, Right Time

On our last trip to Maui in 2015 we drove by this lighthouse and I always wanted to stop. But the time of day and the sky never seemed right to stop and photograph it. But as luck would have it, that change for this trip. We had got up early one morning to drive the road to Hana and photograph waterfalls. On the way we would pass by the lighthouse and things fell in place. The sun was just rising to the right height to put in the top of the light house and the clouds were on the horizon to add a little something to the sky. So here it is the lighthouse on McGregor Point, south of Ma'alae Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Maui. Enjoy!!

Just a splash of color

I took this last night as the sun was setting.

I have this song in my head...

Any guesses??

I have to give Aaron some credit for this one. It was his idea to shoot the steps, the lighting was my idea.

This was taken at the top of Haleakala, the dormant volcano on Maui. We were fighting winds that were 30-35 mph, it was COLD and we had a hard time breathing at 10,000 feet but we had a good time.

West Coast toothpick holder...

I have mixed emotions when I see scenes like this. Happy on one hand for all the jobs that are created as a result of the logging industry but sad on the other hand for all the trees that had to be cut down. Thankfully the forests here on the West Coast grow back fairly quickly!

Starry, starry,

seas!!

Aloha from paradise. We have been here a week now and because of storms off the coast (thank you El Nino) we have only had a couple of days of good clear water. It's supposed to improve in the next few days so hopefully I can get some good underwater photos soon.

Until then, here is a nice purple starfish. The first one I have seen during any of our trips to Maui.

Red sky at night... Sailor's delight!

Found this nice Wintry Sunset in Hardy Bay several nights ago and got a few pictures before it got too dark.

Interesting patterns...

Interesting patterns left by a commercial pressure washer on a concrete slab. Reminds me of the drawings from the "Spirograph" kits everyone had back in the 70"s...
