This is the original entrance into the refuge. It's no longer used but they left it standing for people to see. Had I taken a better photo of it this would make you think you were entering Jurassic Park. Really, it would! (I'll have to work on that!)
Don't quote me on this but I think this entrance was originally built in the 1920's.
That looks as though it might be a conservation crew job.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct Levonne! I wish I had a prize to give you. LOL
ReplyDeleteInteresting bit of history. Really like the sky in this shot.
ReplyDeleteI guess after the September long weekend (Labour Day up here) you will have the whole place to yourself again!
I liked the sky to when I was shooting the photo but I wasn't looking at my screen afterwards (the wife was "patiently" sitting in the car waithing for me LOL) and the whole shot was dark. I took three or four and then left without ever previewing them. Some how I got the EV set to minus 1.7 and everything was really dark and this shot is what I salvaged. I had envisioned the sky looking a lot better along with several other things. I'll have to watch for another good sky and try this one again and pay a little more attention this time!
ReplyDeleteAs far as having the place to myself, that's the way it's been with the 100+ temps the last four weeks. Starting Labor Day we will be busy again, filling up just about every weekend until Thanksgiving. Come December it will thin out and I'll have the place to myself pretty much until March. Well except for maybe Parker. He wants to come down and learn a few things so I'll see how far he can walk! LOL
I also like the skies in this photo. I see the sign is sporting a new blue and white paint job. This entrance was used until the mid sixties when the road alignment moved a little to the north. Ron this entrance portal also makes very nice B&W's. A great background frame for family pics.
ReplyDeleteI know I can walk around the block once, because I do that every morning and its downhill all the way!LOL
You better start walking twice around the block, we've got a lot of places to go this winter! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm headed out tomorrow on a site. It supposed to get down to 55 tonight so it should be nice and cool when I start out. Maybe I'll have a couple of photos when I get back. :~)
