Evening visitors

Found a couple of Barred Owls at the edge of the forest overlooking our back yard a few days ago. It was well into dusk but I was able to take several longish exposure, high ISO pictures using the tripod before darkness set in completely. Here are the best two captures after working them over a bit with Photoshop.

  1. They are so cute! They look slightly pinkish...is that the light?

    1. Could have been the light but more likely the post processing in this case. I had to lighten both pictures up quite a bit.

  2. What? Did I read that right? A tripod??? LOL

These came out pretty good for low light shots. Were you using the Sigma 120-400mm lens?

    1. Been so long since I had the tripod out I almost forgot how to use it! Yes this was with the Sigma 120-400 but even with this I still wound up cropping the finished pictures some...

  3. i love the barreds! we used to have a pair that hunted our yard every day at dusk during the summer. they moved their nesting area further into the woods and still come up at night, but not when i can see them - just hear them right outside the window, sometimes. :)
