Aloha!
I apologize for being away so long. The last few months have been different to say the least.
I went camping with a friend near Hana this last week. We had intended on shooting the sunset, the Milky Way and the sunrise over a two day period but for the most part it was cloudy during all of those times.
I crawled out of the tent about 2:30 a.m. the first night and saw a small break in the clouds so I took the chance to get a milky way photo before the clouds closed back in. I set up in front of the vehicle as a souvenir photo of the trip.
Nice Dodge picture, too bad the Universe photo bombed your shot! (Couldn't resist) LOL
ReplyDeleteKidding aside this is actually a pretty cool image! Try as I might I still can't seem to get nice crisp pictures of the Milky Way like the ones you get...
Are you getting any "VOG" blowing up from the Big Island? I imagine this would make for some pretty impressive sunrise and sunset photo opportunities!
No real vog here yet Paul. The trade winds have been blowing it in other directions so far. The sunsets have still been pretty spectacular though!
DeleteYou can thank Aaron for this; when shooting stars you need to remember the rule of 500. Divide the focal length of what you are shooting into 500 and that tells you how long your shutter speed can be before you start seeing movement in the stars.
There will be lots more milky way shots to come. It's that time of the year and I have several spots I want to shoot from now.
Ok, call me thick between the ears, I'm probably over thinking this...
Delete" Divide the focal length of what you are shooting into 500 and that tells you how long your shutter speed can be before you start seeing movement in the stars."
So if the focal length is infinity like it would be for stars and other far away stuff, then what would the shutter speed be?
That's not your focal length, that's your focus point.
DeleteIf you are shooting with a 20mm lens and divide that into 500 then you can have a shutter speed of 25 seconds before you see movement in the stars
D'oh! I knew I was over thinking it... Thanks Ron, now it makes sense!
DeleteWhen are you going back to go camping with me in OK.LOL. Glad to see you back, I thought you might chasing the Lava in the big island.
ReplyDeleteNo lava chasing for me, not until this October. Planning a trip to the big island then and swimming with the manta rays.
ReplyDeleteCamping in Oklahoma may have to wait a while Q. Having too much fun here and I have several other things I may be doing this fall including shows in California and maybe Europe next summer.
