Swiss Rocks

Found these interesting holey sandstone rocks while hiking this last weekend. Unable to figure out if this is from water or wind erosion as the rocks above the high tide mark seem just as eroded as the ones near the low tide mark.

  1. The "holes" are probably air pockets that were formed in the rock when it was formed and are now visible due to the erosion.

On a scientific note, sharp edges usually denote wind erosion and rounded edges are usually from water erosion. Just a little something I learned from watching the Discovery Channel! LOL

  2. Good study of textures and patterns formed by nature. mp
