Well, I just looked through my trailside guide to plants in Hawaii and didn't find it. It almost appears to have yucca plant qualities...maybe it's in that family.
Over here on Tenerife you find them very often. It is a Agave (Agave atteruata) and in Germany you call them: Schwanenhals(the neck of a Swan) Agave, cause of the look.
I have a feeling that this could be an introduced plant, not native to Hawaii. By the looks of the leaves my best guess would be from the 'Agave' family. Notice the leaves are broad based and fleshy, similar to a Century Plant, which also sends up a tall stalk that flowers. Just a guess!
Well you know, the technical genius that I am, I have been trying to figure out how to get the "reply" button on here for about 8 weeks now! Finally figured it out this morning. Now if I can only figure out how to make the header photo longer...
I try to surround myself with smart people as much as possible unless of course I want to look really smart then I hang out with the not so smart ones! LOL
Val, I'm only smart part of the time, the rest of the time I'm thinking about Hawaii! LOL
When you sign into your blog go to the "design" button at the top right of the page and click on that. Once you get to the design page click on the settings button along the left side. Once into settings click on the "posts and comments" button. When that page opens look for the "comment location" and in the drop down menu to the right of it set it on "embedded". Once you've done that save the settings using the save button in the upper right hand corner and that should do it.
If it doesn't let me know and I will go back through what I did again to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Paul, I just added it yesterday. I was actually being honest about it taking me weeks to figure out how to do it. I had talked to several other bloggers and nobody new how it got on their blog, just that it was there. It was a simple fix once I knew what to do, it was finding what to do that took so long.
neat! :)

ReplyDeleteThere's a book?? LOL
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure that if anyone knew what it was it would be you Val. I guess I will just have to go back and see it again. :~)
Just looked around on the internet but couldn't positively identify it. I agree with Val that this would likely be a Yucca plant of some sort.

Nice ID Nova! I like that name 'The Neck of a Swan'. Fits the look of the tall stalk!
DeleteThank you Nova! Now we will all be able to sleep tonight! LOL
DeleteThat is a great name and fits the plant well.

Don't they make tequilla from the agave plant?
DeleteYes indeed! Nectar of the Gods in Mexico I'm told; if you get the good stuff!
DeleteYou must be a mind reader! I was going to ask if there was a way that we could reply individually to the comments, and wah-la, here it is! Gracias!

I don't recall seeing the option to "Reply" to an individual comment until just tonight. Ron you must have added that option to the "Comments"?
DeleteNice option!
