A not so controlled burn

The military base to the south of us had a burn last week. I'm not sure if it was a "controlled burn" or a fire started from an exploding artillery shell but an ember or two from the fire jumped the fire break and caught this old home on fire. This house is unoccupied and has been for decades but is on the national register of historical buildings. Now the military gets to pay for historical renovations!

  1. Gosh, I hate to see that. This is the Ferguson house built in 1927. Wife and I were looking around the buildings a couple of years ago and Ferguson's grandson happened to be there showing his grandkids the place. Quite a story behind the place. He told of a little community of people south thru the cut in the hills his granpaw used to visit long before living at this place.

Sure hope they restore the house.

The Mountain Gazette photojournalist Ron has been hard at work again!!

  2. Oops! The one saving grace as you have pointed out is that hopefully this quaint cottage will get a total makeover complements of Uncle Sam.
