We had some thunderstorms move through last night so I finally had a chance to shoot some lightning. Of course I was lazy and shot these off my front porch instead of chasing the storms but at least I got off the couch!
We ended up getting just enough rain at our house to get the grass, well, the weeds wet but just a couple of miles south of us they were deluged with over 5 inches of rain in less than two hours. I would have loved to have some of that to fill the ponds with.
love the power!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love a good storm.
ReplyDeleteMighty impressive, especially the second picture!
ReplyDeleteSo were you able to capture this by leaving the shutter open for extended periods of time or are you just quick with the shutter button?
I'm fast but not quite that fast!
DeleteI set the camera on a tripod (maybe that's what the lightning was about, Thor was having a good laugh), focused to infinity at f5.6 with the 17-35mm lens and held the shutter open on bulb until the lighting flashed. Once it flashed I released the shutter and the pressed again holding the shutter open until the next flash. Kind of like shooting fireworks. Out of 50 shots I maybe got 5-6 that I liked.
We supposedly have more storms coming tonight so maybe I will get another chance.
Very nice! I like the bottom picture, it has nice colors to it.
ReplyDeleteOminous looking sky.
