Tonight's moon

Apparently there was supposed to be a planet or two in close proximity to the new moon in the sky tonight but I couldn't see anything other than the moon so I took a few pictures anyway...

I used my Sigma 120-400mm lens at f8 for this shot and set the camera to spot metering rather than matrix metering otherwise the moon is totally blown out and way to bright to pick out any details.

  1. This is a great shot. Lots of detail in that sliver of moon. Handheld?

    1. Not quite handheld... I braced the camera up against the open door of my pickup truck. Let's see 4 tires on the ground does that mean I was using a quadrapod? ;)
