Another panoramic

Aaron has sent me another panoramic shot to post. This one is from the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
I guess I'm going to have to teach him to not point the camera directly at the sun! LOL

Faces on the beach

Funny how certain things just catch your eye. Here are a couple of rock faces found on a hike to a favorite beach. At first I thought the bottom one was a petroglyph (Indian carved rock) but on closer investigation started finding these "eyes" in other nearby rocks from the same formation.

Looking for Loch Ness

I wish I was searching for the Loch Ness Monster but that will just have to wait for now. This is an observation tower that was built at one of the lakes out here back in the 1930's. I was driving by one morning and saw the low clouds and it made me think of some far off place like Scotland or England so I took a photo.

Unfortunately I didn't see any strange things moving in the water.

This beach once ranked a #1 Best Beach in the nation by Travel chanel, and CSMBC. No filter added.

Random Hawaii Picture

Kailua Bay Beach Park, not many tourists here, in fact just ourselves the rest were all locals. The Town of Kailua is on the Windward side of Oahu and is lush and green. Were my Wife and I ever to win the lottery this is the area I would be drawn to. It's nice to dream...

The good, the bad and the ugly

I would consider this the bad AND the ugly! Overweight and tired after a day of hiking in the mountains with Aaron. I knew I shouldn't have been eating all of that ice cream when it was 100 degrees this summer!

There's not much improvement on the ugly part but I consider this to be the good, sitting 10,000 feet up on top of Haleakala on Maui. Even though I was freezing my lens off it was a very good day!

Photographer In Action.

Lunch in Chinatown

A number of years ago while on holiday in Hawaii my Wife and I decided to trade the crowds in Waikiki for the crowded streets of Chinatown in Honolulu which is truely an interesting place to explore.
By early afternoon both of us were getting hungry so I suggested we try the local cuisine, just look for the place full of locals. Sure enough we found it, a noisy common eating area surrounded with a number of food vendors selling countless unknown dishes. The air was alive with interesting smells foreign to our Western noses. I couldn't help but notice that no one seemed to speak English either.
We both agreed that this was the place! So we placed our orders by pointing at one of a number of faded photographs depicting plates with various meals. Indeed each of us enjoyed what we ordered! During the meal I took a picture of one of the faded display boards on the wall behind my Wife... The poor cockroach must have been wedged between that faded picture and it's plexyglass covering for years. I didn't show her the picture until after returning from our holiday.
Funny thing, we've been back to that same busy lunch counter several times on a number of holidays since! When in Rome...

A new contributor

My daughter, son-in-law and grandson were down for a visit the past weekend so we took them out and gave them the two cent tour. While on top of the only mountain you can drive to the top of we stopped for the photo opportunities and my son in law Aaron took some photos with a Fuji point in shoot. The camera has a "panoramic" setting that allows you to line up a portion of the last photo you took with the next photo you are taking. It's actually a pretty nifty deal as far as I'm concerned. This photo is one of the panoramic shots he took using the special setting.

He had another photo I could have posted but it was just this old man sleeping on the couch after being on a long hike with the youngster. Trust me, this is a much better subject!

Blame it on Paul!

Like Paul, I have also been putting in a lot of hours lately although my wife calls it "playing" and not work! I have been able to take several photos but I haven't had time to take them off the memory card and get them on the computer. Since Paul made the mistake of talking about Hawaii I am posting a couple of photos from Maui. This first photo is above the ocean and the second photo is below.

These are called "goat fish", don't know why but that's just what I was told.

New profile picture

Been working 12 and 14 hour days for the last several weeks and will be for the next while. While this is good for the bank account it is a little hard on the free time to get out for a hike and for taking pictures... But I did update my profile picture! LOL
Actually this is an extreem crop of a picture I took of myself reflected in the bumper of my truck. I got tired of looking at my old profile picture because it always left my head missing...
I may have to dig through the Hawaii pictures and post a few of those if I don't come up with some new material soon!

A DARK SKY CAMP

Caprock Canyons State Park in West Texas is a Dark Sky location!
Located in a sparsely populated area of Big Ranch Country, man made lights are few and far between. Light Pollution for the Star Watchers is not a factor.
By Day, one would not realize this. Light, intense and very Red in its casting, Steals the Show.

Hydrophobic

Hydrophobic the opposit to hydrophillic... Now what's Paul on about this time?
OK you know that hydro means water right, so phobe or phobic means "repelled" and phillic means "atracted to". Ergo my title "Hydrophobic" in reference to these two plant pictures.

RUSH LAKE

Fall is a beautiful time around Rush Lake. As you drive around the curve coming upon the Lake, I always think of a Rocky Mountain scene.
The hardwood trees seem to support my muse!

The sky is the limit!

We had the remnants of a tropical storm move into the area yesterday but before it dropped more than three inches of rain on us I was able to get a few shots as the clouds were moving in on Tuesday.

The top one was shot with the Sigma 10-20mm with CPL filter and the bottom one was shot with the Tamron 18-250mm at 18mm without a filter.

Getting paid to take pictures!

OK so it's just a bunch of pipes and dirt but I am getting paid to take these pictures!
Several years ago on another project I took a bunch of pictures. The engineer for that project found the pictures so usefull when drawing up a final set of blueprints for that job that he asked me to be on site to doccument this pipe laying project. So I dug out my old D50 and went to work. Who would have known?
