This is my friend Vern looking at the whales from the side of the boat while I was taking photos with my camera in the underwater housing.

To give you some perspective, the boat we were on is only 20 feet long and he was in the middle of the boat while I was shooting near the back of the boat.


  1. Most interesting picture! Your whale pictures this lats trip are just amazing by the way.
    So you must have been using a 10mm to 15mm or similar size lens for this shot?

    1. I was using a Nikon 16mm fisheye lens for the shot. All of my underwater stuff is shot with either the fisheye or a Nikon 20mm 1.8 lens. It all depends on what I think I will be seeing and how close I will be. Sometimes I guess wrong and there's no changing lenses once your underwater!
