The resident non migratory Mocking Bird was raising all kinds of cane on the last day of Feb. this year. These migrating Cedar Wax Wings had invaded his private stash of holley berries that he had been protecting all winter.
At the peak of ripeness only a few were ate every day by the Mocking Bird and an occasional Robin. But today there was more thieves than he could fend off!
Every year this invasion occurs as these Waxwings(check out the small red wax spot on their wings from where they get their name) make their way north from South America. In one days time they completely strip the berries from the Holleys and have moved on. A fleeting glance at a real Bandit! (There were probably at least 75 birds in this robbery!)
Now I'm jealous of you guys! It's nice for you to adventure your self in a nice weather. I'm dealing near 100 temp. for 4 weeks here in Dallas. By the way nice photos Paul!
ReplyDeleteThree very nice photos! Good commentary to go with also.
ReplyDeleteWhat lens are you using for these pictures? These are nice and close and very clear too!
Paul, these pics were taken with a Nikon D 40. I used a Nikon 55mm-200mm lens with VR on.
ReplyDeleteThese birds were very active.

Sorry Parker! I thought these photos are from Paul. Nice work Parker!
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos. You've got a good mix of colors and the photos are great. I loved the story too.
ReplyDeleteYou're getting pretty good at this. Pretty soon you'll be spending that hard earned money on some more camera equipment, it just gets in your blood!
