Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon

Still haven't had any time to do anything but work... Not that I'm complaining at all. Nose firmly planted to the grindstone as the saying goes!

Heres a picture from last trip to Oahu of the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel in Waikiki. No set plans at this point but hoping to get to Oahu again sometime this Fall or Winter. Need some serious R&R time!

  1. This is a postcard quality. I like it a lot. I'm wondering, why we haven't seen this before?

  2. Palms are casting neat shadows in that skyline view. Nice balanced shot!

  3. This is a great shot! I love the feel the wide angle lens gives to it and like Parker said, the shadows of the palms are neat and a nice touch.

I also agree with Q, you've been holding out on us from your last Hawaii trip.

  4. Sorry Q and Ron, not holding out on the Hawaii pictures, just never really noticed this picture before as it was quite bland until I started playing around with it using Photoshop.
Frankly if it weren't for the ability to post process my pictures after I've taken them I would have very few worth sharing!

    1. I know what you mean. If it wasn't for the fancy software I would have to work a lot harder as a photographer. Might be better for me but I much prefer doing the post processing! LOL

  5. By the way Ron I just found out you're going to need one of the new 24mp FX D600 now to go with all that other gear you have and while you're at it you might as well grab a Nikon 28-300 VR II lens to go with for your everyday shots with the new camera body! LOL
Actually this is a combination I will give serious consideration to when it comes time to upgrade from the D90.

    1. A D600? That's the first I have heard of it. I did a little quick snooping on Bing and found a review. It looks like a nice camera but I think when I get another camera body it will be a full pro version like the D4. I like having most of the adjustments on the outside of the camera with dedicated buttons and not having to go into the menus to change metering or focus or the ISO, etc. It really makes a difference in how I shoot and how quickly I can shoot.

The 28-300 VR II might be interesting. The VR I version I have of that lens works really well. My next lens will probably be a macro lens and then I will either go for the Nikon 200-400mm f4 or make the big leap and by the 600mm. I'd love to see what kind of whale shots I could get with that.

    2. Paul, FYI this is the beach area where they shoot the shrimp truck scenes for Hawaii 5-0. I was there last Oct. when they were filming. Just happened upon it as my friend was getting a haircut. Fun to watch some of the action. Be aware though, they don't like ya using your camera while they're filming :) Gotta shot of Scott Caan and his dog though LOL....
oh, and this is a great shot!! No people, how did you do that?!?!

    3. What a treat to see them filming Hawaii Five-0. My wife and I are always there wrong time of year for filming it would seem. We'd be happy to see anyone from Hawaii Five-0 or Dog the Bounty Hunter!
