Forest flower

While hiking a mile above sea level in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State I found this curious little flower growing in the dim light on the forest floor. Absolutely no idea what flower it is. Interesting how every little hair reflected the flash, almost gives it an iridescent look.

  4. This is a great photo! Well worth framing. You got a ton of detail in it and the darkness of the brackground really makes the photo special. The colors are perfect. Nice job!

  5. Thank you all for the nice comments on this photo!

Wondering what made this photo work out the way it did compared to other pictures I took the same day I did a little digging... What I found is that for this particular shot my camera was set to -2ev (under exposed) and my flash was set down a little lower than normal also as I recall. The effect is that the foreground is well lit with the background darker than normal highlighting the subject without the distraction of the background.

    1. Thank you Val. Yes still using the D90 which still does a great job!

Though I have been wondering which direction to go for the next camera body, the choice for me would be either Nikon DX (2/3 size sensor) or Nikon FX (full size sensor). This choice will also dictate which lenses I purchase in the future...

    2. Yea, buy a book I don't want to be the only smart one in the group. LOL

I know you have the lenses for the DX format but you will not regret going to the FX format, except for the cost. Your Sigma 400 is already an FX lens anyway isn't it? You're already on your way to FX! LOL

    3. Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
FX or DX format? This is a decision depends on how long are you going to keep doing photography, and if you are a landscape photographer. In my opinion, I rather spending my money on the photography equipment instead of on a new car.
