Great Blue Heron

While in Oklahoma on our last trip we seen a few of these Great Blue Herons. Not many would allow us to come close to them. Most would just fly by. So to get any photos of them going by you had to see them way before they got to you.

  1. Those aren't bad at all. I really like the top photo. The bird's eye is perfectly in focus and you got some pretty good color.

  3. Nice light for all of the captures of this very shy bird!
Is this handheld with the Sigma 150-500?

    1. It was with the Sigma 150-500mm but not handheld. I had it on a tripod and gimbal head combo. I don't think I could have kept the bird in the frame if I was shooting handheld.

    2. Have the bird in the frame is the first thing I was practice on when I started shooting the the bird. When you learning to do this on the slow camera like I did, it's a great advantage when you switch over a fast camera. Good work!

  4. Good work Aaron. You caught some nice angles on these. Like that streamlined look of the bird while in full flight.
