Here are a few more photos from Ron and I's adventure to the refuge. These were all shot with the lens I borrowed from him. They aren't as sharp as they could have been. I think my ISO may have been to high. I was able to smooth them a little in the RAW converter in CS5. These were shot as we were heading home for the day and stopped in the middle of the road to take pictures of the bald eagle and happen to have a hawk of some sorts fly by.
The hawk photos aren't too bad. I think you forgot to zoom on the eagle though! LOL
ReplyDeleteConsidering the fact you were shooting hand held and running around in the middle of the highway I think they came out pretty good.
Under the circumstances I'd have to agree with Ron that these came out not bad!
ReplyDeleteI've come to the conclusion that no mater how long, sharp, stable etc a lens is... It's never enough and there's another one better that's just out of reach price wise! LOL
Appears to be a Redtail Hawk? Nice shots for a chance sighting!
ReplyDeletePretty good for the first time! In my opinion, I don't think it's your ISO being too high. By looking at these pictures, I think your shutter speed wasn't high enough, and not enough lighting at the time you shooting these birds. In these situations you need to be on the high ISO to achieved high shutter speed at 1/2000 sec. or faster, and on +EV to compensated the exposure. Also, taking a bird in-flight, your camera needs to be on "continuous" focusing mode, and focus locking "short". By the way, turn the "IS" off on your lens, it's hard to track the bird if it's on.
