Late Night Lighting

I have always been interested in lighting photography and how these spectacular images were captured. So with the wife and kids headed off to bed I decide to looking it up on google and give it a shot. The first two photos are taken from my front porch. I used a thirty second exposure and hoped that I could capture a strike or two and with luck I did!

With feeling I had a grasp of the concept of how to do it and not getting much lighting in the frame, I told the wife I was leaving for a better location. With a weird look and a be careful , I was off. At the second location I switched the camera to bulb mode and held it until I captured a lighting bolt or two. Needless to say some of the shutter lengths were in the two to three minute range.

  1. I am more than impressed. Not luck; it's the result of good planning on your part. Plus a little divine intervention!!

I've always wanted to photograph lightning myself and even thought about it last night too but the agrument between sitting on the couch and going out with the camera was won by the couch.

    These really are great shots!

    1. I though about calling you but I figured you had already went to bed. I guess I should have called. I wouldn't have want to keep you from the couch. LOL
