In Flight Part II

OK, so I didn't really fly the jet. They didn't have a barf bag big enough for me to do that! LOL

These shots were taken on an aircraft carrier that has been turned into a floating museum/attraction in San Diego. This is aboard the USS Midway. They had several aircraft on the flight deck and the below deck work area and there were a couple that you could climb into and I just couldn't help myself.

For the more adventurous they did have a flight simulator that you could get into, again, no barf bags big enough for me, but the simulators are capable of full 360 degree rolls and other maneuvers that would make the roller coaster crowd very happy.

  1. Always amazing how large these floating cities are! This looks like a fun day playing tourista on your vacation trip.
Just think if you had went ahead and pushed the 'EJECT' button on the dash of that jet, we could have had a pic from Aaron of you floating down on a parachute! Missed opportunity!

    1. Gee thanks Parker, I'm glad to see you are looking out for me! LOL

Unfortunately Aaron didn't get to go to the Midway. He and the family went back a day earlier than the rest of us because of work so he missed out on the planes and the simulator. I made sure I rubbed it in though! LOL

  3. What a great find Ron! I'll bet you spent all day there, so much to see and do.

Unlike the rest of you I'm with the roller coaster crowd, even my kids are afraid to go on the rides I do, I'd love to spend time in a fighter jet simulator!

    1. LOL! You had to go way back for that reference!

There was a short movie on board the Midway about the ship and it said it was used to take refugees out of Vietnam. I don't supposed you left by ship did you?

  5. No, I didn't have a luxury leaving Vietnam on a US Carrier. I don't remember talk to you about my journey depart from Vietnam. It wasn't a pleasant trip for a 16 yr. old boy. We were in a 35' - 40', and 8' wide with 65 people on the boat. Our meal menu for each person it was about 8oz. of water, and half an orange for the first three days. The remaining 4 days just 8oz. of water, and no dessert menu. Buy the way, not including we got robbed by the Thailand fisherman from our 2nd day in the trip, and continuing to our 7th day. No one got got rape, but a lot of beating by the pirates. Just lucky to be alive, and I wondering why I never want go on a cruise ship.

    1. I can't say that I blame you for not wanting to be on another boat. All I can say is I'm glad you made it!
