Sunset on Lana'i

I was thinking about Hawaii again yesterday and started looking through my old photos. This is a re-do of a photo I posted when we first started the blog. I re-worked it in the NIK software just to see what it would look like.

Paul suggested that I post the photo that I originally put up a couple of years ago so here it is.

If you look at the larger images you'll notice there is a lot less noise in the new version and the colors are better just to mention a few things.

  2. Can't beat a good Hawaiian sunset photo! You should put the original posted picture up for comparison.

  3. This certainly showcases your skills with the NIK software! Much more depth and life in the top photo! Going to have to give this NIK editing software a serious look.

    1. I had never heard of it until Q told me about it but I am definitely sold on it. You can do a lot of the stuff the NIK software does in photoshop but you would have to create multiple layers and use the selection tool over and over to get the same results. Working up a photo in photoshop to the same results as the NIK software would take anywhere from 30 mintutes to an hour or more and with the NIK software it only takes about ten minutes.

You also get a lot of things that aren't in photoshop like the custom filters, NIK's HDR software and the program that takes out the noise (Dfine).

If you are thinking about spending any money in the future on camera gear this is definitely something I would invest in. It certainly isn't cheap but they put it on sale every now and then and you can save quite a bit of money if you have a student ID and can get the student version. I did't have access to a student ID but I did get it on sale. Knowing what I know now about the software I would pay the full price for it if I had to, it's that good.

    2. You got most of the photography gear, all you have to do is pay for those photography trips. Let me know if you need an assistant. LOL.

    3. If I buy anymore gear I will need an assistant just to help me carry it! I'm sure if I'm going to Hawaii I will have lots of volunteers! LOL
