More Trail Adventures

Watchful Eye

Continued from last post.
Not for sure who enjoyed the drive the most, the Horse or the Cowboy? After all it's not everyday that one gets to join in trailing these longhorns who wear the WR Brand!

Point and Swing Men

Every time the end of the herd would pass me I would jump in the truck and move to another location so as to be in the position to watch them come by again.

Crater Lake Dam and Indian Hill

Indian Hill is the small hill to the right of the dam. The scenic background seemed to work well to showcase the cattle drive.

First Ones In

This cow and calf were the first to go thru the gate behind the visitor center where the drive would end.

Keep Them Coming

Last Ones In

With the drags last to arrive while pushing the end of the herd thru the gates, the epic Cattle Drive was over!

Savoring The Event

After the gate was closed and the Trail Boss checked his tally book, the cowboys and their horses just seemed to relax for a moment. Reins were slacked for a moment as both riders and horses savored the good job they had just finished. Picture taker pulled the camera strap over his head, turned the camera off, and just sat on the toolbox in the pickup bed. He too savored what he had just been a part of!

  2. This must have been so neat to be part of. I love that cowboys are still doing this and people are still interested. Great shots...I felt like I was part of the round up myself.

    1. Sandy it was pretty nifty to get to see and capture photos of the drive. You were part of the round-up! You have looked at the photos and felt as if you were there. And your nice supportive comments prove it!

  3. Lots of work going on there. I could sit and watch it for days! LOL

Very nice documentation of the cattle drive. You should submit the photos and story to the Lawton Constitution.

    1. I wish you would have been there working too. It really was some fast paced shooting then rushing ahead to get in position for another round. Lots of pics;sure glad that wasn't film I was burning images into!

There was no media there. I did see one of the refuge guys taking a few pics. I think they tried to keep this as low keyed as possible as usual! Happened right after the school buses made their run and the roads were quiet.
