Young Raven

Took this picture with the Sigma 120-400 at 400mm. Still having problems with the focus motor in this lens and will be sending the entire unit in for warranty repair. Aparently as I mentioned before this is a known problem with a whole batch of these lenses. Even with this little problem I am still very happy with the pictures I get using this lens.

  1. I hope the repair is quick. Gonna be time to get out and about pretty soon and we will be waiting to see pics from that lens.

Very nice pic of the Raven plus good frame choice! Frames sure add to the enjoyment of viewing photos. I bet this raven will looking for his bisquit every morning!

  2. If you're having problems with that lens you sure can't tell it by this photo. You can see the detail in the feathers and the eye is in clear focus along with the rest of the bird.

I see you've taken to Q's tricks of baiting your subjects! LOL

I agree with Parker on the frames, it does add athat special element to a photo that makes it look just a little more polished.

  3. There's a lot of details on the bird, I don't see anything wrong with the focusing problem on this lens.

Hey Ron, sometime you have to cheat to get the shot, as long it doesn't show up on the picture. LOL.

By the way, it's a great shot.

  4. Truth be known I was walking over to photograph a Blue Heron on a nearby beach when the young Raven flew up, landed and dropped the bread on the rail. I'm not sure where he got it from... In local native mythology the Raven is known as "The Trickster" as they are so clever. Perhaps he was trying to make it look like I had baited him!

Unfortunately with the lens the focus motor just gets weaker and weaker. In order to get it to focus I have to manualy focus it to the aproximate right place then it will do the rest but barely. My only regret is that I will be without a long lens for however long it takes to have it repaired.

  5. You can generally figure about two weeks from the time you send it in till the time you get it back. It usually takes about 7-10 business days for them to do a repair and then send it back.

At least that's what has happened on the couple of lenses I have sent in.
