April Ice Storm

The last two days had touched 80F degrees at my home in Oklahoma. Trees were beginning to leave out and the grass was showing sprigs of green. Charlotte and I were in full tilt Spring Cleanup!

During the evening a cold front bringing sleet, rain, and hail blew in. By this morning (today), everything began icing up.

The Carolina Jasmine, which just yesterday was in full bloom, began to droop with the weight of the ice. It was sure smelling good yesterday!

Even the red tip shrub and the red berries on the nandina bush were drooping!

The ornamental plum tree took the biggest hit. It was in full bloom and the ice really gathered on the branches. Finally I heard a big crack as it split in two. Just what I wanted! More work on top of what is left to do before I can start getting my travel trailer ready for a trip!

    1. One thing about living in Oklahoma and North Texas as we do. The weather is interesting and seems always to come in extremes!

  2. Oh man, that sucks! That's too bad about the tree (and the work you have to do.) It will probably be 80 again tomorrow though! LOL

Aaron and I will be down to the mountains at the end of this month for the weekend. Right now it looks like we will get in late on Friday the 26th and just stay a couple of days. Let me know if you think you will be there then.

We plan on putting in two very full days of photography (and a spot check of the triangles) while we are there.

    2. What a beautiful backyard you have there! We got some that cold wind today also, hopefully everything survive after we spent good money on the flowers last weekend, and I hope the same in your backyard.

    3. Thanks for the compliment on the backyard. Probably have to put in a new tree but I think everything else will survive. We never buy any flowers to plant until around the 1st of May. As long as it didn't frost down your way your plantings should be fine! Maybe this summer you could show us a pic or two of all the work that you did on your backyard!

  3. Wow the power of Mother Nature, Ice storms can be so damaging!

I agree with Q, gorgeous back yard, beautiful selection of trees and many other plants I'm sure and as the others have already said too bad about the Ornamental Plumb tree.

    1. Ice storms are a pain! Feel fortunate that there wasn't more damage. Lots of my neighbors fared alot worse than we did.
