OF ALL PLACES

for a mom to leave their kid!
One evening in June arriving back at campground after enjoying a steak dinner in town with Ron and his wife this is what confronted us! My neighbor was looking under his truck wondering what to do about this situation. As he was not needing to use his truck that evening Ron advised leaving the newborn alone so as not to put any human scent on it.
Sure enough some time during the night mom came for her baby. After looking around for awhile mom and baby were spotted at the edge of woods nursing.

  1. WOW! I'm surprise he or she didn't takeoff when you upclose like that.

  2. Part of a newborn fawns defenses are to remain motionless, another is they are born with no smell so as not to attract predators. This fawn was probably no more than 2 or 3 hours old. I had seen it's mom in camp earlier in day and she had not dropped this fawn yet.
