MIDIEVAL FACES

King for a Weekend

At the 34th Annual Medieval Fair in Norman, Oklahoma, a King still rules his subjects! Renaissance scenes of 13th and 14th centuries along with the merriment and costumed actors and participants, gave all who came to observe a taste of  life from early day Europe.

The King and His Court was guarded by an array of armed subjects!

Ready for Duty!

Having never attended a Midieval Fair before, and have to admit was never to interested in those times, little did I know how much this photo adventure was to be an eye opener!

As I walked around the large acreage and grounds trying to get a feel and a theme for my pics it became clear that it was the faces of these dedicated actors and portrayers that kept capturing my lens. So!  Midieval Faces will be the name of this short series. Included will be a few pics without a face, just to add color!

  1. much better to have the fair in spring than in the summer like texas does! can't imagine staying in those costumes in 98 - 102 degree temps! or worse!

  2. TexWisGirl,
Very perceptive you are! Took these pics March 31st and the temps climbed to high 80's and low 90's that day. Can't imagine wearing all that heavy clothing and dresses in those temps. Shade trees seemed to be real popular!

  6. I'm happy to see you starting a new chapter from your project. Last time I attended to one of this show in Dallas, I get to try out some blood sausage? Actually, is pretty good with dark beer!

  7. Most of the "guards" don't look that happy. There is definitely a lot of color in these!

  9. I have been to one Midieval Fair. In southern France, in a small village. I felt like I was transported in time. These midieval people are much more colorful. =) Nice shots.
