Maximum crop

Just playing around to see how small of crop I could take out of a 12 mp picture and still have presentable results. The above 1.5 mp picture was about the maximum crop before it started looking grainy on my computer monitor, though it would still be perfectly fine for publishing on the internet.

Thinking ahead, with a 24 mp image I could can take a crop half this size and end up with the same quality results and with Ron's new 36 mp D800e I could take a crop one third the size with the same results.

Took this picture this morning handheld with the Sigma 120-400. Definitely addicted to VR and OS!

  1. Sigma 120-400 is a workhorse lens. Produces wonderful images!

    1. Workhorse is a good description! Using that same analogy I'd have to call it my Clydesdale lens due to it's size and weight but it's definitely a no nonsense get the job done piece of glass and I'm happy to have it in my camera bag!

  2. Nice job on the crop. I like the way you showed it in the original photo too. Very clever!

    1. Took me awhile to figure out how to show what I was doing in Photoshop and finally figured out to use the "snipping tool" screen capture utility that came with my computer.
