WOW is that a mortar launcher or a lens! LOL
The bottom photo really makes your new lens look huge compared to the camera body!

OK, so maybe you DO need a tripod for this thing! LOL

That lense is HUGE! I want one!!!

A tripod certainly must be used with this long Tom barrel. Or at least a fence post! You can really reach out and touch someone with this baby!
