Fins to the left, Fins to the right

Here's a few more whale shots. Catching the fins was a lot easier than getting them to jump.

I risked life and limb to get these. OK, maybe not life and limb, just my breakfast. The top two shots were taken from a boat we went out on in the hopes of seeing whales. I was hoping to get a closer shot of one jumping but they were pretty timid that morning. The two top shots were taken with a Tamron 18-250mm lens at 70mm and the third shot was taken from the shore with a Sigma 150-500mm lens at 500mm.

It seems the older I get the less my body likes being on the ocean in a boat. About half way in to the two hour cruise I was having a hard time concentrating on anything except what I could do to keep from, uh, feeding the fish. I did make it through the cruise without heaving over the side but there were several others that weren't so lucky, including my mother-in-law.

  3. I've never had the chance to photograph them, but I guess head and body shots are hard to capture!

Wonder if dramamine would help the nausea? Some folks swear by it!

  4. Parker, I DID take dramamine!! I guess I'm just a big wuss when it comes to boats on the ocean. I can do boats on a lake with no problem but for some reason, once you put it in the ocean I have problems.

I guess it's a good excuse to buy a bigger lens! LOL
