An old man by the sea

Watching for the illusive humpback whale. Photo taken by my wife, Cheryl.

And just in case you're wondering, the t-shirt says "Old Guys Rule". A gift from my oldest daughter. She may just be right! LOL

I know they're out there somewhere. That's the island of Moloka'i in the distance. This was taken just as the sun was coming up over Maui and shining out to Moloka'i. Hawaii is just about the only place I get up early enough to photograph a sunrise.

  1. Finally to see a Sunrise picture from you! You are a lucky man to have your wife taking picture of you, if it's for my wife she would screaming in the background "put that stupid camera down, and help me with the breakfast". LOL.

  2. Also, you should name this post "an old man by the sea".

  3. LOL Q! The trick to that is TAKING them to breakfast. Then you don't have to cook or clean! It costs more but everybody is happy then.

I will make a change on the title for you. I figured old man and sea pretty much covered it! LOL

  4. I was up plenty early everyday but one while we were there. The first day I woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and set on the lanai waiting for the sun. The second day I slept in till 6:00 a.m.!

Next time I might take a drive to the windward side early and catch the sunrise. I didn't take a lot of shots I wanted to take because I didn't have the tripod.

  5. Cheryl, it's nice to know you're behind the lense again!
Never got to meet your daughter but already like her. 'Old Guys Rule', now thats a slogan I can live by!
A 'Sunrise Pic'? Did a volcano erupt close by?
I am surprised by the calm sea. No surfing this morning!

  6. Everybody's a comedian! LOL

Nope, no volcano, just vacation. It makes a difference when your relaxed. It's also nice waking up to the sound of the waves hitting the shore.

The sea was usually calm almost every morning on the leeward side. It didn't start picking up most mornings until 8:30 or 9:00 a.m.
