My new assistant

Or, a photographer is born?

I think more than likely she just likes playing with all of the shiny little buttons. LOL

This is my youngest grand daughter (Aaron's daughter), Skyler. Aaron came up with a way that I could custom fit the Ikelite camera housing to both the D700 and the D300 and while were were putting it all together Skyler decided she wanted to help.

The photo was taken with a cellphone by my youngest daughter, (Skyler's mother), who pretty much refuses to use a real camera. Go figure!

  1. LOL! Happy Father's Day or should I say happy Grandfather's day!

Granddaughters are always intrigued with whatever Grandpa (or Papa in my case) is doing. Even more so if Grandpa has a shiny new toy!

That's quite an impressive looking housing, total bonus if you could use your D700 in the Ikelite housing too!

    1. Happy Father's Day to you to! And all the other fathers out there.

It's definitely a bonus Paul. I was really wanting a housing for the D300 to begin with but I found a D700 housing that was a steal and I couldn't pass it up.

It turns out that was a good thing. The D700 is just slightly bigger than the D300 so Aaron came up with the idea of using my laser and cutting an acrylic plate for the D300 so it would set up the 1/8 inch higher it needed to to completely work in the housing. Now with the plate I can use either camera in the housing which means when I go to Hawaii I can just leave the D300 in there and shoot my other photos with the D700 like I planned on.

    2. All the buttons and stuff line up just by adding the plate?

    3. I can control every button on the D300 while it's inside the housing except for the function and depth of field buttons. They sit back just a hair too far for the controls to reach them since the D300 is a touch thinner than the D700. Other than that, adding the 1/8 thick plate brought the D300 up to the height where I can look through the view finder and use all of the other controls.

    4. The D300 and the D700 are almost identical cameras except for the full frame and a few small inside differences. On the outside all of the buttons and knobs are the same and are in the exact same spots.

    1. LOL Tex! Although, my Dad was big into cameras when I was growing up and that's where I got my interest from.
