I came across an abundance of sea life in the reefs just in front of our condo. It took me a day or two to get used to the new underwater rig and figure a few things out before I started getting any good photos. I've already purchased a new lens for the next trip and I'm doing a little studying on how to get better photos. It seems a tripod won't work underwater. LOL

I bought a Nikon 50mm F1.8 prime lens. Several of the fish were farther away than I wanted and with the 24mm lens I just couldn't get close enough. Although there were some turtle shots that I was so close I couldn't get the whole turtle in the shot but he was a BIG turtle!
DeleteShooting the the 24mm f2.8 on the D300 gave it the crop factor of a 36mm lens but next trip I will be shooting with the D700 underwater and leaving the D300 at home. I'm planing on taking the 24mm and the new 50mm lenses and using them based on what I think I will be running into. As you can imagine, there is a lot of luck involved in underwater shooting. LOL
Strange creatures those sea urchins. Neat how they found a safe place in the pockets of the coral.
