Day at the races...

Definitely not the Indianapolis 500 and I didn't bother sticking around to see who won but it was a good chance to try a couple macro shots with the Nikon 18-300. Both pictures are about 25% of the original shot.

I just have to say that I continue to be impressed with this lens! I'm thinking it's going to be a long time before anyone comes up with a better "walk around" lens for Nikon's DX series cameras.

  1. The lens seems to gather quite a bit of light. What settings were you using on the lens and how far away from the "race" were you?

    1. I had the lens about 8 or 10 inches from the snails at 300mm with the aperture at f8.

One thing I've noticed is that this lens is quite sharp even wide open at 300mm unlike most zoom lenses that need to be stepped down to f8 or more to stay sharp. Definitely looking forward to teaming this lens up with a D7100!

    2. I can't wait to see that on D7100.
