Rushing through the Jungle

These were taken along the road to Hana. It had been raining the entire week before our arrival on the windward side of the island and continued to rain heavly on the mauka (moutain side of the road or inland) while we were there. This made for some great waterfalls and a lot of rushing water down the mountain and through the jungles.

  1. Both shots are great, really like the bottom shot with the water. Did you use a ND filter and how long of a shutter did you use?

    1. Questions this early in the morning? My brain isn't even awake yet! LOL

The bottom photo was shot without an ND filter. The area I was in was already in shade because of all of the trees so I didn't need it. The camera settings on this were ISO 400, f22 with a 1/3 second exposure and the exposure was turned down 1 step. I also shot it handheld because I was too lazy to get out my tripod.

    2. Too lazy to get out the tripod! I wish you had your tripod at that time, it would be good spot for HDR shot. I like the bottom picture, and it looks pretty damn sharp for handheld.

  2. Beautiful lush tropical settings for both of these pictures, the road to Hana looks to be a photographer's paradise!

The top photo looks famaliar... Did Q post a picture of these same waterfalls and pool a couple of years back?

Hand held, long exposure shot, sounds like something I would do! Ha ha

    1. This is a different spot than what Q posted. I think his was taken at the 7 Sacred Pools and this was just a spot we found along the road somwhere near Kaenae.

The road to Hana is a great spot for photos but i's better if the roads are dry so you can drive all the way around the island. If they are wet then there is a 2 mile stretch that's pretty trecherous and you have to go back the way you came and making that drive twice can really wear you out!

  3. What a place you found for landscape shots! The waterfalls feeding the peaceful pool of water has the feel of being very secluded. Nice!
