Just wondering, Is there Brown Bear living on the Island,or just Black Bear? Maybe one morning or evening you wll have the long lense on your camera and the culprit making this sign will be revealed to us Shutterbugs!
This print was from a young Black Bear probably 2 years old and perhaps 150 lbs. / 60 kg. A full grown male Black Bear can weigh as much as 600 lbs. / 270 kg. The print was about 4 to 4 1/2 inches / 10 to 12 cm across. Fortunately this wasn’t a very fresh print or I would have been long gone! LOL

ReplyDeleteI hope you're not taking your morning walks when it's still dark outside. I would have to be carrying something else that shoots too!
ReplyDeleteFortunately there are only Black Bears here on Vancouver Island and they are as eager to avoid humans as we are to avoid them!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a male Black Bear. In some place, you need another set of eyes on the back of your head if you see one of these foot prints.
ReplyDeleteHow big are those prints, and the bear that made them?
ReplyDeleteSorry, European here who's never seen the black bear.

270 kg - that's a lot of bear. :)
ReplyDeleteThe biggest we get around here are lynx, and they are very shy, I haven't managed to see one yet.
